I have to be quick with my posts now. I accidently blew up the only converter I had that was able to charge my computer by trying to use my blow dryer yesterday. So, I'm working on trying to maintain this charge until Friday...we'll see. We had bought another converter (at 10:30pm the night before I left), but it clearly has written all over it DO NOT USE WITH COMPUTERS. Oh well. We tried.

Today I was in the conference for most of the day again. The conference room in Wroclaw University (and where I gave my terrible presentation is in the following picture).

I did leave and have a long lunch because it was amazingly sunny and ALMOST warm for the first time since I've been here. I ate in the restaurant in the Town Hall (one of the most important examples of Gothic architecture in central and eastern Europe). I ate outside, but the pictures show the building and the entrance to the restaurant. I had Wiener Schnitzel. I know it's not Polish, but I have never had it and decided I'd try it. Don't think I'll try it ever again, though. Not that it was bad, but it isn't going to be on my repeat list. It came with a vinegar salad which didn't taste like your typical vinegar dressing. Despite my disappointment in the flavors of the meal, the sun and the warmth definitely made up for it.

After lunch, I went to the conference, listened to talks on cellular and molecular effects of infrared, visible and uv radiation and then went sight seeing, briefly. Here are some pictures of two nearby squares. There are gnomes everywhere. I don't know the significance, but hope to find out tomorrow (I'm skipping the conference to sight-see, but will make it to the banquet! : ) Important things, you know!).

For dinner, I decided I'd go light and get some dessert. I had a Zapiekanki (which is a Polish style pizza - cheese and tomato on an open top baguette). For dessert, I decided I'd go with Lody. This is ice cream and it definitely seems like close to 75% of the people I pass on the street are eating these cones. I went to a Lody shop and got a Jogurt Lody. (I said Jo-gurt and they had no idea, I had to go behind the counter and point to the one I want...even though some of them know "English", it's Polish English, so I still am unable to communicate). Okay, I need to pause for the description of this Lody. *PAUSE* IT'S AMAZING. It's like a thick citrus flavored dream whip with a hint of blueberry. Honestly, I've never had anything like it and I LOVE IT. Jeremy...this doesn't even come close to ANYTHING Cold Stone can produce. The picture is of me eating the Jogurt Lody on the street like 75% of everyone else. ; ) I know this is a terrible picture, but I'll post it anyway because I don't have any pictures of myself in Poland on here (and honestly this is the only one I have). It's a fun place and very interesting, but traveling alone is definitely not fun! I'm excited for Jeremy to get here!

Tonight Lietuva is playing basketball against Polska (as far as I can understand) and there are SO many Lietuva people here (wearing their jersey's and colors). They have taken over a few restaurants and have been chanting about Lietuva most of the day. It's been fun because I relate being from Duke. I must say though, Polska needs to represent. On a related note, I heard this morning through email that I got an exemption from Duke Campout (held this weekend), so I get my name in the lottery for season basketball tickets!! (2000 students campout for 700 tickets). I'll find out if I'm a ticket holder Sunday morning. Cross your fingers!

Tours and sightseeing tomorrow so I should have much more to post (hoping my computer can stay alive). Hope all is well!!!!
